Yes, you must have a consultation prior to any surgery.

The Patient Registration Form may also be completed by using the online registration form.

The consultation can take between 30-45 minutes. Each condition or enquiry will be different. Dr Sørensen will take a history, listen to your concerns and requirements and perform an examination. He will then give you his assessment and educate you on your options. You will have an opportunity to ask questions. This is all performed in a discrete manner in a tranquil setting.

This depends on your procedure and the complexity of the surgery. Some procedures are quite simple and may be performed in the procedural rooms of our clinic using local anaesthetics. These include small moles and skin cancers. More complex procedures are performed at the Cairns Private Hospital or Cairns Day Surgery.

Dr Kristian Sørensen performs all surgical procedures in the practice. Dr Sørensen also performs non-surgical procedures like anti-wrinkle injections and Dermal Fillers. Dr Sørensen ensures you get one-on-one care and no one else will perform your surgical procedure.

There is follow-up after every procedure to assess wounds and ensure appropriate care is taken. Dr Kristian Sørensen and our nurse will review you as needed until complete healing.

Dr Kristian Sørensen will explain the procedure that will be performed. You will be educated about the benefits and potential complications. Dr Sørensen supports the National Law and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) guidelines that any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Complication Care Policy

Complications can arise during, immediately after and shortly after surgery. Some examples of this can include infection, bleeding, anaesthetic issues, wound breakdown, and seroma. In some cases, it may be necessary to undergo further surgery or outpatient care. In this instance, there will not be a fee for Dr Sørensen’s services. However, Hospital fees will be payable if you are uninsured. The Anaesthetist fees will be your responsibility. Dr Sørensen will explain the risks associated with surgery during your consultations.

It is very important that you notify us if you start or alter any regular medication, as this may affect your surgical outcome.

Unsatisfactory Cosmetic Results

In addition to the above complications, there is always a risk of an unsatisfactory cosmetic result. This can include dog ears, implant issues, poor scarring, or asymmetry, amongst others. Dr Sørensen is committed to achieving the best possible results for his patients, and as such, if Dr Sørensen feels your aesthetic result can be improved surgically, he will not charge a fee for this revision provided it is within 12 months of your original surgery. If you are uninsured and readmission to the hospital is required, all fees associated will be your responsibility, including the Anaesthetist and surgical assistant (if required).

The clinic aims to ensure all patients are consulted in a respectful, professional, safe and appropriate setting. If you have a concern or a complaint regarding any matter in relation to your treatment, please email the clinic.

If your complaint is related to a particular treatment you received, the matter will be discussed with the doctor involved, and you may be asked to attend an additional appointment with the aim of helping to resolve your concerns. The objective should be to provide an explanation or a solution to the issues raised, with the aim of supporting you with a satisfactory outcome.

You will receive acknowledgement of your email within 5 working days, and if the matter is not concluded to your satisfaction within 20 working days of the initial complaint, you have recourse to independent external adjudication. If the investigation into the complaint requires longer than 20 working days, you will be provided with an explanation in writing regarding the delay.
