Exion is a device that combines microneedling, RF and AI for an advanced treatment with aims to target scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, skin laxity, stretch marks, texture, tone and clarity. The Exion Fractional RF system delivers energy to the deep skin layers, while the needles in the microneedling component do not need to be inserted as far into the skin as other microneedling devices to achieve a similar therapeutic effect. Does RF Microneedling hurt?
Although we apply a numbing cream to the treated area 30 minutes before treatment, sometimes there is still discomfort. However, some people comment the procedure is very tolerable – so it may depend on your pain threshold.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for a RF microneedling session?
Your trained practitioner will advise you on what to do to prepare for a skin needling treatment. You may be advised to stop taking ibuprofen or aspirin the week before the procedure to minimise the risk of any side effects. Topical retinoids can also increase the risk of side effects from treatment.

What can I expect after a RF Microneedling treatment?
There is little downtime required for this treatment. Immediately afterwards, your skin will appear red and slightly tender, much like the feel of sunburn. The following day, your skin may appear pink and light brown. Some people may experience a light shedding or peel. We recommend that patients not have planned work or social activities directly after skin needling. We can advise you on potential cosmeceuticals to support wound healing and help reduce the redness whilst healing.

How many sessions of Exion RF Microneedling will I need?
The recommended treatment protocol is four sessions, with a two to six week interval. Final results are often seen from six to 12 weeks after the last Exion RF Microneedling treatment. Although Exion RF Microneedling results are long term, they do not stop the natural ageing process; Additional sessions may be undertaken at four to six monthly intervals.

Medical microneedling can be used on the face and body, including areas with scars or stretch marks. It is a safe treatment option for all skin types, including darker ones that may not be suitable for other treatments like laser or chemical peels.

Do I need a referral to see Dr Sorrel Sørensen?
No, as this is a non-surgical treatment, you do not need a referral to see Dr Sorrel Sorensen or Dr Jack Fourie. A referral is only required to see Specialist Plastic Surgeon, Dr Kristian Sorensen.
How much does it cost to see Dr Sorrel Sørensen?
The cost of the consultation to see Dr Jack Fourie or Dr Sorrel Sorensen is $150, this fee is redeemable on the C02 laser treatment if performed in the proceeding 6 weeks.
What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
There is a minimum requirement of 24 hours notice for cancelling a non-surgical appointment. This is to allow sufficient time for the appointment time to be reallocated. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment or fail to attend a booked appointment, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of $100.
Can I attend the clinic for other forms of treatment if I am under 18 years of age?
Anyone under the age of 18 years old must attend with a parent or guardian for the first consultation. If the child is over 14 years old, the agreed package of treatment can proceed without the parent or guardian been present, but the consent form for the package must be countersigned by the parent or guardian.
What should I expect when attending an appointment?
Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before your appointment time to allow time for parking and completion of the necessary registration paperwork. This involves confirming contact details which are used by the FNQ Plastic Surgery staff to confirm appointment bookings. This data will not be shared with any third party except for administrative purposes relating to the services we provide and where we may be required to do so by law.
If you do not wish to receive updates on special offers related to treatments and products, please inform the reception staff member or email the clinic, to advise that you prefer not to receive these email updates.
In the interest of health and safety, children cannot accompany patients into the treatment rooms and the reception staff are not responsible for supervising young children in the waiting room. Appointments can be provided outside working hours to allow for arrangements to be made, so that your appointment is centred around you.

Pre-treatment advice is available on this website. More detailed advice will be provided during your consultation and should you proceed with a particular treatment, it will be further explained on the relevant consent form.
Post-treatment advice will be provided on attending a treatment. Aftercare advice will be clearly explained with general tips on improving recovery/down time as appropriate.

All prices include GST. You will be required to make a deposit of $100 to secure your booking. Your appointment will be confirmed and secured once paid. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express via electronic banking details over the phone.
What are the payment terms & payment options?
Skin cancer
Payment for skin cancer/ skin lesion surgery is due (7) days prior to your surgery booking date.
Cosmetic surgery
To secure an appointment for cosmetic surgery, you are required to make a deposit as outlined below. The final payment is due to FNQ Plastic Surgery 2 weeks prior to your scheduled date. Please reference your surname and contact us once payment is complete.

Refund policy
If you cancel or reschedule your procedure less than (7) days prior to your surgery date, you will be responsible to pay thirty percent (30%) of the total costs of the procedure (non-refundable and cannot be applied to a future procedure).
How much does plastic surgery cost in Cairns, Australia?
Average prices paid for cosmetic and plastic surgery are different across Australia. Prices and Hospital Costs vary for plastic surgery as every patient has slightly different anatomy and varying surgical needs. Your Price for surgery depends mostly on which surgeon, which hospital, the type of prosthesis and how long the surgery will take. It will also vary based on eligibility for Medicare and whether you are insured or uninsured.

Will Medicare cover my procedure?
Many patients want to know if Medicare will cover plastic surgery. Medicare will cover what is deemed essential reconstructive surgery and procedures that have associated Medicare item numbers listed in the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
Dr Sorensen and his team can help you understand if Medicare may cover your procedure. However, if you wish to look up a particular type of surgery and its item numbers, refer to the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
Medicare will not cover cosmetic surgery procedures – like a cosmetic breast augmentation.
If you meet the strict criteria, you may be eligible for a Medicare item number Breast Surgery, Tummy Surgery, and post weight loss Excess Skin removal, amongst many other procedures.
Private Health Funds – are you an insured or uninsured patient?
You can undertake your surgery as a self-funded (uninsured) patient, or you may be covered by your Private Health Fund. There are many private health funds, some more generous than others.
Your Private Health Fund may partly contribute to the cost of your surgery. If you have a valid medical referral and meet the specific criteria for a Medicare Item Number.
You must also have the right LEVEL of insurance cover – Gold, Silver or Bronze – for the type of surgery you want. You may have to delay surgery after initially joining a health fund – typically, a 12-month waiting period needs to be served before you can have surgery.
If you have private health insurance, it is your responsibility to check your level of cover for this procedure. If you are not covered for the procedure, you will be responsible for hospital fees. Below are listed questions you should ask your health fund:

GAP or NO GAP Plastic Surgery?
Nearly all plastic surgeons now charge a GAP fee on top of what Medicare and Private Health Funds are willing to contribute for your surgery. Medicare rebates have been fixed and have not increased for years. This has resulted in few, if any, NO GAP Plastic surgeons willing to charge the standard Medicare fee and health fund rebate.
Will your Super Fund pay for your plastic surgery?
You may be able to get early access to your Superannuation Fund to pay for your life-changing surgery.
This will most likely apply to Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck), Breast Reduction, Body Contouring, Arm lift, Nose Surgery or Skin Reduction after significant weight loss or Bariatric Surgery.
The Australian Tax Office (ATO) will assess your Early Super Fund Access application for medical procedures that treat life-threatening illnesses or chronic pain.
